(meteorobs) New FCC rules and FM radio meteor observations

In the USA the FCC is planning on opening up the FM band to a large number
of low power non-commercial stations with effective radiated powers of up
to 100 watts. The plan to do this is presented on their web page at
www.fccdot gov/mmb/prd/lpfm/. These new stations would be assigned to
"unused" frequencies. In a worse case situation this could eliminate the
FM band for radio meteor use in many locations because we use the "unused"
FM frequencies for our observations.

The good news is that the FCC now has a planning program to identify unused
FM frequencies. This program is a good starting point for determining the
best frequencies for FM meteor observation. It can be found at
www.fccdot gov/mmb/asd/lpfm/lpfm_channel_finder.html. This program considers
first and second adjacent channel interference, however congress may also
require that they consider third adjacent channel interference.

Hope this is of help.
