(meteorobs) To Promote or Keep Mum
Of course the answer is to promote. But to what extent? Malcolm had a
good idea in promoting the shower but not the radiant. I have seen it
happen all too often when a call for action is issued on a certain
possible display all kinds of odd observations are seen. The best
example of this was the infamous Upsilon Pegasids back in the late 70's.
This was a time when information spread much more slowly. Today it could
be much worse with all types of bogus shower associations being
reported.
Potential observers of such an event must be reminded over and over to
be as objective as possible so that a real picture of the activity can
be obtained. An issue of the date and best time for such an event should
be sufficient.
