(meteorobs) Observations June 3/4
I was at the Hawaii Astronomical Society star party last night, and
tried some meteorobs as well. (but its tough to keep focused on
observing in such a jovial atmosphere!). The sky conditions were
typical for our sea-level site, with LM around 6.0, and many clouds
coming and going, not ideal for meteors, really.
Anyway, didnt see much activity, in 1 hr Teff, only 6 meteors. Only
oddball, was a mag 0 "SPO", which lined up well with the ECL
radiant, but shot straight down from near Lyra to the northern
horizon at incredible speed! I estimate around 100°/sec. One of the
fastest ones I have ever seen, so I ruled it out as ECL.
Lately, I have not have not seen good meteor activity, but I am not
watching at the peak times, either. I will try Wedneday morning for
the Arietids. No sign of the Compton re-entry, eithr, but I heard it
occured thousands of miles away from here, not in the nearby
corridor.
