Re: (meteorobs) Meteor Colors and Luminescent Trains

Here is a list of colors produced with a blowpipe of mineral bearing rocks
using a blowpipe. This may be useful in determining minerals that can be
found in meteors, reference: Recovery and Refining of Precious Metals,
1984 by C.W. Ammen.

Arsenic (As) pale blue and smell of garlic-like oder

     Boron (B) yellowish green

     Calcium (Ca) yellowish orange-red

     Barium (Ba) yellowish green

Copper as an oxide (CuO) emerald green

Copper as a chloride salt (CuCl2) azure blue with an outer fringe of
emerald green

     Lithium (Li) crimson red

Sodium (Na) very intense and yellow

     Phosphorus (P) pale bluish green

     Strontium (Sr) crimson red

Identification of minerals normaly require more than one test, each a
process of elimination. This may help in considering what is the primary
mineral composition of a meteor from the colors it produces.
