Get a copy of "Sky and Telescope" magazine.  Its cover logo has white
writing on a red background.  If my flashlight is red enough to make the
writing indistinguishable from the red background at night, I figure it's
red enough!  Being cheap, I use whatever I can find around the house that
gets me very close to that color.
