(meteorobs) Observation Sept 24/25 2000
Hi everyone,
In case you've been wondering..., yes I've been busy going out meteor
observing over the course of the late September / early October dark
moonless nights. Until now, I just haven't had a chance to decode the
tapes! It was nice to get all these sessions in after enduring a dull
(overcast most of the time) summer.
The first report is for September 24/25. I made it out to the
Casselman site to observe for 4 hours teff, beginning 2 hours before
local midnight. I was joined that night by several other observers
who had scopes. The sky was quite good with LM=6.4 and no clouds. I
faced south-east, centered 60 deg high.
The total count was 40 meteors (36 sporadics with a few apex, 3
Piscids and 1 Delta Aurigid). It all seemed like an ordinary night of
activity. The final hour was the highest with 13 meteors. Many were
plotted. Nothing got brighter than magn 0.
One highlight worth mentioning... A 2nd magnitude south apex meteor
shot like a bullet across Cetus with a 60 degree long path!
