(meteorobs) Radio Orionids - 15th to 27th
Hello
While I've had a radio meteor detection system for over two years,
I've not bothered to do much regular counting. Just recently (on the
14th October) a friend constructed for me the small circuit necessary
for Pierre Terrier's Meteor 4 computer program. While I'll likely
soon rebuild the system around another radio and set it all up
permanently, here are some results for the current system. I have
listened to the system for quite long periods to check the detections
and "ground" the data. It works well though there are a few things I
need to talk to Pierre about.
The following is in local time. I'm +10 UTC. Location is just north
of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (27.5S 153.17E).

Notes:
- no results (power failure)
T thunderstorm
E Sporadic-E
C computer interference (from another I was building)
I'm sure about the sources of interference mentioned in the notes as
I was listing to the system at the time. However the results for 21st
look great, but I suspect that there may have been a distant
thuderstorm. I was asleep and don't really know but it just looks too
good to be true. I wish I had recorded some of it on audio tape to
confirm the result. As I'm running it just from a DOS floppy at the
moment, I also didn't store the actual data, just a record of the
detections.
The rest of the results confirm that the system is at least picking
up the daily cycle and the rising and setting of the Orion radiant.
Once I get the system rebuilt around another radio and computer I'll
dedicate it to this project. When I'm happy with it I'll consider
making contributions to the Radio Meteor Observation Bulletin
distributed by Christian Steyaert... if I'm allowed.
Oh... and Robert L; I too would encourage you to include the
"southern view" in your weekly meteor activity outlooks (plus a
mention of any daylight activity :).
thanks
Bruce
