Re: (meteorobs) Re: photo strategies for Leonids '00?

Bob Yen and Group,

One counter intuitive effect of meteor photography during a bright moon is
that the sky fog actually improves the ability to catch faint meteors at
the limit of observation. If the meteor is faint enough so that it would be
recorded on the toe of the H&D curve of the emulsion which is the region of
density just above film base plus fog, then a little sky light density will
cause the meteor to record on the film in the density region above the toe
where the contrast is higher and the meteor recording is better. In
practice the results may not be that dramatic, but theoretically it would
be measurable.
