(meteorobs) Initial Leonid Report Nov 17

I managed a short one hour session (730-830 UT) from Mt. Laguna.
Conditions were miserable with freezing temperatures and high winds,
just like last year in Spain. At least the sky was clear! I counted 18
meteors facing due west at an altitude of 80 degrees. Totals were 14
Leonids, 2 Taurids, 2 Sporadics. 11 of the 14 Leonids were long
impressive earth grazers. 3 Leonids occurred nearly simultaneously at
0754 UT. The brightest Leonid was -3. The limiting magnitude was
estimated at +6.20.

I can endure those conditions with the rates I saw last year in Spain
but now that I'm suffering from a cold and lack of sleep I'm planning to
save the remainder of my energy for Friday night/Saturday morning.

Clear Skies!
