Re: (meteorobs) recording question

It seems that each observer has to figure out what works best for him or
her.. If you look at the Teff column in the reports, those with
1.00 hrs Teff usually means that the observer never had to look away from
the sky to record data, and prob used a tape recorder to record data. Like
Rainer, I enjoy the more "archaic" method. I use a small pocket note pad and
pen, and red light. I enjoy the "data collection" prt of observing as much
as the actual show. (then again, I am a statistician by day..;-).
I often predetermine my observing intervals and label the pages (like
last night, I pre-labeled 12 pages with 30 minute interval headings). So I
sorta have a template for my observations. It takes usually takes me ~5 sec
to record TWO parameters (classification and mag).. So I manage to keep my
eyes on the sky ~97-98% of the time. After some practice,. you'll should no
difficulty in BOTH recording relevant data AND Enjoying The Show..;-))
I DO have a few friends who, knowing about my meteorobs enthusiasm, feel
there is no way could one actually ENJOY watching meteors AND collect data.
I have to respectfully disagree with that stance.
