(meteorobs) Leonids from Costa Rica 2

Hi:

I didn't have better luck tonight. With a little luck I had a small
window through hazy clouds for 20 minutes and saw 4 probable
Leonids. Observing data follows:

DATE: Nov. 18
OBS. TIME: 20 minutes from 06h39m UT to 06h59m.
OBSERVER: C. Hernandez
LOCATION: Heredia, Costa Rica, 10d00m21s NortH 84d07m01s
West
OBS. METHOD: Recorder, talking watch, paper, pencil.
ALT: 1200 m (3937 ft) above sea level.
SITE: Urban with moderate light pollution.
OBS. CONDITIONS: Poor.
MOON: Just above Eastern horizon, 5 degrees over mountain top
according to Sky Map Pro 6. Actually, the Moon was occulted by
thick clouds. Phase 0.54.
LIM. MAG: Aprox. 2.75 (Iota Ori visible, zeta Tau not visible) at
start of observation. It deteriorated to about 0.5 by end of
observation (Rigel visible, Betelgeuse not visible).
CLOUD COVER: Moderately hazy through a 60d by 60d window
(Orion and Taurus visible, the rest of the sky was overcast with
thick clouds in all four directions).
OBS. ALT: Aprox. from +60 to -60 degrees.
METEORS SOUGHT: 4 (all with the right Leonid direction and
expected speed). Their estimated time and magnitudes were:
(1) 06h43m UT Aprox. Mag. 1.5, through Taurus, white, speed 4,
non-persistent trail.
(2) 06h46m UT Aprox. Mag. 0.5, through Taurus, blue white, speed
4, long non-persistent trail.
(3) 06h51m UT Aprox Mag. 1.0, through Orion, white, speed 4, non-
persistent trail.
(4) 06h53m UT Aprox Mag. 0.5, through Taurus, white, speed 4,
non-persistent trail.

Perhaps there will be better luck next year.
