(meteorobs) Fwd: Leonids from Sarasota, FL
My brother Bill is NOT a subscriber to meteorobs, and his observations
are informal. Just another enthusiast enjoying a good show.

>Dear People
>
>These are my observations from Sarasota Florida for the leonids meteor
>shower 2000.
>
> My sweetheart and I arrived about 12:30 am the morning of the 18th at my
>usual spot which is just east of the city on the other side of I75.
>We set up our gear and sat back to watch.
> It wasn't long before the first one was spotted. We seemed to average
>about 25 an hour, but it was a pretty steady stream averaging about 1 every
>three minutes.
> Alot of them had nice tails but not to many colors. They were also very
>fast and the most of them seemed to come from an angle of 75 degrees east
>heading SW or SSW. It seemed most of them traveled the ecliptic. Total
>count for us was 50 logged, 15 not logged or 65 total. Only one that was a
>fireball and about three yellow, and one that was white, green, blue, and
>orange. It stayed a steady stream until we left which was 3:30am est. The
>moon almost sat right in the radiant. Clouds were very slight at first but
>by 2:30 we were up to about 20 percent in clouds. Visual magnitude for me
>was about 5.
> All in all I feel that the leonids were a success this year and if we had
>stayed out until 6 am we would have counted 200 at least.
>If you have any questions you would like to ask from the data I collected
>please feel free to e mail me at GalacticRabbit@hotmail.com.
> I will gladly respond to all inquiries. And Keep looking up!!!
