(meteorobs) Leonid pictures turns out ok...
Hi everyone,
I just picked up my Leonid photos taken this past Nov 18, and I'm
fairly impressed that something did show up after all! (I thought the
bright Moon would have washed out everything).
I caught at least 6 Leonids on a single roll of Fuji Superia 800. One
of the meteors is a nice long green one almost exactly in between M31
and the Perseus double-cluster (but not quite a fireball)! Luckily,
it just made it on the frame. I saw many of those meteors visually. I
called the brightest one a magn -2 and the others either magn 0 or
+1. On film, magn +1 Leonids just barely registers.
I was surprised by the reasonably good contrast on these pics,
considering that the Quarter Moon was a serious problem for long
exposures (I was using a 50mm f/2 unguided lens with up to 5-10 min
exposures). Off-the-shelf Fuji Superia 800 a good film for meteors?
