RE: (meteorobs) (Meteorods) Request for Sighting Confirmation

Sorry it took so long to respond, I went back out last night to help assemble a weather station and do some data research online later for our next winter weather system.

It was MUCH brighter than magnitude –3, in fact it was brighter than the moon which was just to its right.

I’m not sure hot to judge magnitude as of yet.  I see that the list is alive now with the sighting.  It’s one time I wish I had the vedio camera dash-mounted and on as I normally do just for such unforeseen events.  This night it was charging.

I’m very color sensitive.  The other thing I noted was it’s nearly perfect match to the moon’s color but slightly greener.  I’m not sure if the list picks up graphics but I have a BMP square that I matched the color too as exactly as I saw it.  Many can tell you that I do very well in this area.  If it would help, let me know.  I have embedded it into this message.

Matched color of fireball event December 3Rd, 2000 9:58 PM (0358 GMT Dec 4 2000)

Brian,

How bright was it??? If it was mag -3 or brighter (somewhere between the brightness of Jupiter and Venus) it would be considered a fireball, and you should file a report with IMO Fireball Data Center (FIDAC) at:

http://www.imodot net/fireball/report.html

Keep looking up!
