(meteorobs) San Diego (CALIF) Fireball - 12/29/00

Cool. ANOTHER FIREBALL!(someone mentioning a recent bevy of fireball?)

What a nice holiday gift from the sky! Where and when?:

Location: San Diego, California
Date: 12/28/00
Time: 19:44 Local Time (PST)

Whilst driving northbound on local freeway with 2 friends, we all
simultaniously witnessed a most beautiful and slooow tri-colored
-6 sporadic fireball.. nearly dead ahead. Beginning at ~35deg elevation,
azimuth=340o.. traveling downward and westward, ending
at ~20deg elevation, azimuth=320o. Duration seemed to be just shy of a full
second.

All three of us clearly saw 3 distinct color changes.. White to green to
blue.. No fragmenting, no terminal burst, no persistant train. However, we
all saw a distinct, tho, instantanious wake.

No sounds.

Ya know.. witnessing (with others) a beautiful, bright and colored fireball
seems such a magical and special moment!

  Cheers and clear crisp skies,

  Joseph Assmus
  San Diego, CA

ps. formal IMO-FIDAC report has already been submitted
