(meteorobs) QUA from Hawaii
Things were looking good for the Quads here in Hawaii last
evening. Before I went to sleep early, planning to wake after 2am,
the skies looked clear and I was anticipating a good show. Well,
old Murphy paid a visit. When I awoke at 2:30, it was completely
overcast! It started to clear a bit by 3:00 am, so I began an hour
Teff session. However, there remained a layer of high clouds above
the low layer, which lowered my LM even in the holes.
Saw just 2 QUA out of total of 5 meteors. LM=4.3 Everything was
faint and barely visible through the haze. A sad attempt, but at
least I got something to make a report out of. After 4am it clouded
up solid again, so I went back to catch a few hours of zzzz's.
I calculated a ZHR=30.7 +/-21.7 for this hour at 1300. Seems
activity a bit lower than I expected.
Happy New Years & Millenium to all!
Mike.
