(meteorobs) body heat
Some comments on hot
beverages.
When you consume a hot liquid, the temperature of
your body core rises thru conduction. This elevates the temperature of the blood
coursing thru the digestive system and subsequently through the
body. This thermal energy is imparted to the tissues that it contacts. The
capillaries do dilate. (When the body's extremities became chilled, the
capillaries closed down to conserve heat at the core-where vital organs are
located.)
The bottom line is that the hot liquid does provide
temporary relief from the cold and then after this heat is counteracted by the
outside chill the body resumes it miserable state :-)
So its up to you to decide whether the temporary
relief is worth it.
Dont forget the considerable downside aspect of
having to release the liquid waste in a subzero environment. (Assuming you are
in the wild and not near heated plumbing)
Good luck weighing the pros and cons of the war on
heat conservation :-)
