(meteorobs) Meteor Activity Outlook for January 12-18, 2001

The moon reaches its last quarter phase on Tuesday January 16. This is
probably a good week to finish all of the 2000 paperwork that is still
unfinished. Hopefully you don't have as much as I! Early evening
observers can watch the sky free of moonlight this weekend. Don't expect
to see much though. Rates will be higher during the morning hours but
the bright moon will compromise any attempts during that time of the
morning. Conditions will be much better next week so I would suggest
saving your efforts to help us verify some minor shower activity coming
up soon. The positions listed below are exact for Saturday night/Sunday
morning January 13/14. The positions do not change greatly day to day so
these positions may be used during this entire period.

Antihelion 08:32 (128) +18
Gamma Velids 08:40 (130) -49
Alpha Hydrids 08:52(133) -11
Alpha Crucids 12:44 (191) -63
Northern Apex 13:32 (203) +06
Southern Apex 13:32 (203) -24

Clear Skies!
