(meteorobs) Obs Jan 24 - January Coma Berenicids??
I observed for 3hr Teff last night under clear LM=6.0 skies right here
on Oahu. I had planned to fly to Haleakala overnight, but the
unusually clear conditions here reversed my plan at last minute.
(Why pay for a flight+car to spend all night freezing at the summit,
for a 0.5 gain in LM?! )
I started observing at 10:45pm local time, soon after the proposed
January Coma Berenicid "JCB" radiant rose. I didn't see anything in
the first hour, but the next 2hr produced 4 possible JCB
candidates! They were faint, averaged <mag 4, but fit the velocity,
path/radiant length and trajectory criteria. The SPO and other minor
showers showed typical activity, too.
At best, if all 4 JCB candidates were real, the shower had a ZHR
about 3 between 0845 and 1215UT. On the other hand, they could
have been simply a random sporadic alignment. Therefore, I am not
too convinced of any JCB activity from 0845 - 1215 UT on Jan 24.
Anyone else see something more definite?
Mike.
