On Jan 30.53 I observed the comet with high power using a 19" 
reflector, and I do not recall any knot or condensation in the tail. It 
was just a broad diffuse fan shape... Just looked again this morning 
and managed to see the comet in moonlight at mag 8.9 in my 
10x50B !
