Jeanne,

I had to wear a patch for a year for medical reasons and for me things
never got better. Our human depth perception at close range is due to the
rangefinder aspects of having two eyes spaced apart. The same method is the
basis of the parallax measurements to stars. Only one observing position
and there is no distance measurement. I just had to be extra careful.
