Re: (meteorobs) Hot Meteorite

Hi Barbara,

I am a student at Texas A&M, and I operate a website dedicated to meteorites among other things. It is POSSIBLE that a witnessed fall could be hot, but more likely that a metallic meteorite lying in the sun all day is the case. They cool surprisingly slow, so what is withing the realm of possibility is anyone's guess. On my website, I include information on how you can look at a specimen and determine if it might or might not be a meteorite. Determination by chemical analysis and spectrographic readings are more final, but my site has some good "rules of thumb." As I say on my site, I offer testing and identification services. Any opportunity to scientifically study meteorites is welcomed. Thanks for writing, please check out:
