Hello Daniel,

I haven't placed that particular article into a common web format (HTML or
Acrobat PDF) yet. Lew's handy archive does contain a "quick and dirty"
derivation that I did on that topic in March of 1999:

http://www.tiacdot net/users/lewkaren/meteorobs/msg12695.html

Although in re-reading it, one paragraph needs a nomenclature
correction. The archived message reads:

"To a first order approximation, both of these can be made a function of
the radiant zenith angle (ZA = 90 deg - RA (radiant altitude)) to obtain
some relatively simple formulae. However, these will only be good for
radiants greater than about 20 degrees above the horizon."

I think I had showers & radiants on the brain --> It should have read:

"To a first order approximation, both of these can be made a function of
the meteor zenith angle (ZA = 90 deg - RA (meteor altitude)) to obtain some
relatively simple formulae. However, these will only be good for radiants
greater than about 20 degrees above the horizon."

The article on this topic (for Meteor Trails) develops these relations
again, but also shows the effect of using the full meteor distance
equation, rather than the approximations. If desired, I can look at putting
the magnitude extinction article up on the web site with the others.

Best regards,

      Jim
