In the case of such a wonderful fireball, I'd recommend 
checking from time to time on Peter Brown's page with reports 
of fireballs/bolides detected by sensors aboard United States 
Department of Defense satellites.  There aren't very many of 
those reports released, but I would tend to assume that a 
fireball brighter than the full Moon might be a fairly likely 
candidate for detection.  Here is that Web page:
