Meteorobs-

On Monday, July 30, at about 5:00 PM we observed two black smoke =
trails starting from the zenith and extending in straight lines down to =
the horizon over Nantucket Island. The smoke trails descended steeply =
at an apparent angle of about 45 degrees from overhead to cross the =
horizon at a point 40 degrees East of North. The dark smoke trails =
persisted for about 15 to 20 minutes before dissipating. This was in =
full daylight.
Were there any reports of fireballs (2) traveling North, Northeast =
at this time over Mass. as these smoke trails would suggest? I took a =
panoramic set of still photographs of the trails, including landmarks, =
to record this event. These can be provided for study if there is any =
interest.
Please let me know if you have received reports of fireball =
observations that would support this sighting.
    JAF
