Re: (meteorobs) arizona impact
Hi Jim and All,
Fulgurites are not an event. A fulgurite is a hollow tube formed from melted
and partially melted sand when lightning travels through the ground during a
strike. As the electrical charge squirms through sand, rapid melting occurs
around that "finger" of electricity and when the charge dissipates, what's left
is a hollow tube. These are not rare finds but are great to collect and examine.
They are, however very delicate and will break easily if not handled with care.
I know this is OT but thought I should pipe in before fulgurites turned into
science fiction.
