(meteorobs) Perseids from So Cal - 2000 (Fun!, but unimpressive)

Hi All,

Quick report... I observed from 1200a-445am PST with Bob Lunsford, in our
usual spot... Laguna Mountains, San Diego. ~5000 ft elevation.. wonderful
conditions.. nearly 70 degrees when we began. light breeze. Clear 6th mag
skies with Milky Way beautifully visible all night..
In 4 hrs, I counted 129 Perseids, 26 Sporadics. A small handful of negative
mag meteors... The brightest was a nice -5.. but slightly outta my field of
view.

And, yes, I'd say the Moon did "spoil the show"... Not nearly as many
meteors as in previous years .Still, it was GREAT to get out and observe
again. And, as always,it was sure great FUN observing with Bob.

I observed informally last night and saw a glorious turquois -6 Perseid that
traversed ~60deg and had a terminal burst that brightened it to at least -8.
Thats what I'll remeber of the 2000 Perseids
