(meteorobs) Meteors S FL USA, GRALE, 10/11 Aug 2001

Howdy all from clear, breezy and TRULY steamy Long Key, Florida. I logged moderate to high activity here last night, before cirrus & moon did a whammy on me. Here are the raw numbers for 03:11-04:16 in darkness, and 04:33-05:10 in moonlight. VERY unusual were both a high number of Perseids with the radiant so low, and an extremely faint showing: PERs avg mag was 4.0, while Spor avg mag was only slightly less at 4.17!

03:11-04:16, LM 7.5+, Teff 1.0, CFV Delphinus
Spor 12, PER 12, SDA 2, NDA 2, CAP 2, PAU 2, SIA 1?, KCG 1, tot 34

04:33-05:10, LM 7.07, Teff 0.6, CFV Aql
Spor 7, PER 5, SDA 1, NDA 1, CAP 2, PAU 1, tot 17

A highlight of the night was a long, slooow Kappa Cygnid, mag 2, with (surprisingly) a wake! Lasted a good 4 secs, and was lovely deep orange. Another positive note: the resort hotels popping up like weeds have still done little to damage Long Key skies. :)

Here is hoping for clear skies around the world for the next 24 hours,

Lew "Sauna Tent" Gramer
