The details of this Japanese observation can be found in the paper by Nakamura
et al. the Astrophysical Journal 540 (2000), 1172-1176.

The glow they observed and attribute to the Leonid dust trail in space was
located just (some 5 degrees) above the back of Leo and some 5-10 degrees east
of the head of Leo. This is indeed close to the true radiant for the stream
(which is in Leo minor). A problem will be that this is not too far from the
main zodiacal light.
