(meteorobs) AMS Quarterly Reports now On-Line
Hello all,
The American Meteor Society (AMS) is now placing quarterly reports from our
Visual Observing Program on-line at the AMS web site, located at:
http://www.amsmeteors.org/
Direct links to the first two such reports (for the year 2001) are here:
Visual Observations Log: Winter, 2001 --
http://www.amsmeteors.org/visual/visobsW2001.html
Visual Observations Log: Spring, 2001 --
http://www.amsmeteors.org/visual/visobsS2001.html
There are two features which may be of interest to meteor observers in
general. First, each observations log will include a graph of the
reported (uncorrected) sporadic meteor rates over the quarter in question,
allowing viewers to see the rise and fall of sporadic meteor activity as
the year progresses (and the large amount of scatter inherent in this
data). Second, a plot of the reported, uncorrected meteor rates for each
major shower will be presented, along-side a ZHR plot for the same shower
(for those showers for which the IMO has released a preliminary
report). This will allow observers to see a direct comparison between the
'raw' meteor rates observed in the field and the final, normalized rates
used to create a shower activity (ZHR) profile.
Note that these quarterly reports include only those observations which
have been sent directly to the AMS. If you would like to have your
observations included, you are welcome to send them to the AMS Visual
Observing Program Coordinator, Robert Lunsford, at:
Robert Lunsford <lunro.imo.usa@home.com>
Additionally, the AMS continues to maintain a frequently updated log of
fireball sightings sent to us for the current year (2001), located at:
http://www.amsmeteors.org/fireball/fireball_log.html
Best regards, all,
Jim Richardson
