Re: (meteorobs) Fwd: Comet Borrelly and NASA DS1 flyby

Just for the record: This is not true! The spacecraft performed a super-close
fly-by of the asteroid (which was named Braille), but it was the tracking of
the camera that didn't work. See an early press release about that in
http://www.jpl.nasadot gov/releases/99/ds1flybyresults.html (the spectroscopy
results have been revised several times since, by the way). For a much more
detailled preview of what DS1 is supposed to do better at Borrelly, check out
http://www.spacedaily.com/news/deep1-01f.html (which is the current issue of
the 'Mission Log' at http://nmp.jpl.nasadot gov/ds1/mrlog.html - the only first-hand
source available on this mission which has exactly zero funding for media
activities).

Sorry for these somewhat off-topic comments, but DS1 is my favorite spacecraft,
and thus it is my obligation to set the record straight ... :-)
