(meteorobs) 60-Day Decay Forecast Report



Somebody asked, (I'm sorry, I forgot who it was),
"Wouldn't it be great if we could know ahead of time
when spacecraft debris is re-entering?"  (See below)

Of course, exactly where it will "re-enter" is not
known until just hours beforehand.  But, there ARE
people who know...

It was just last week that I was talking to Rob Matson
(who has access to this kind of "late-developing"
information) and I said, wouldn't it be great if we
could announce these "re-entries" early enough that
observers could get outside and take practice
reporting on these quasi-fireball event.  Comparing
observer data with the actual track could confirm the
reliability of future actual-fireball observations.

But, he said that these "re-entries" occur much less
often than actual fireballs.

And I remember agreeing with him....... but I may have
been premature...
