Re: (meteorobs) Leonids in Australia

Robert,
As pointed out, we are +10 hours on UT, although by Mid novemebr we will be
+11 due to daylight saving time.
Leo rises around 2AM (local time) and is high enough in the North eastern
sky for observation from around three am. The prediction for the leonid peak
is around 5am local time which, due to daylight saving, should still be dark
although dawn wont be too far away. Also no moon to interfere at that time.
As Sydney is a big city I would suggest that your friend gets out into the
countryside where she should ahve a good chance of seeing what ever there is
to see.
As 1998 & 1999 were not big years for Australian Observers and 2000 was
clouded out from my location, I am looking foward to a good show in 2001.
Hope this helps.
Good observing and clear skies.
