Subject: meteor?

we were sitting around the campfire last nite at approx. 6:45 p.m. in
s.e. michigan and saw a huge object shoot across the sky from west to
east. it was almost directly overhead, slightly to the south. it was
visible in an arc of approx. 60 degrees. it was at least 5 times the
size of a typical star. as it was traveling across the sky, small
glowing fragments were clearly visible breaking away from the tail. can
u tell me what we saw? thank you
