(meteorobs) Second LEO peak occurs early at 14-15UT ?

I just returned from observing at the 3400m level atop Mauna Loa on Hawaii's Big Island. The first LEO was seen at 10:08UT (12:08 am local time), just about at radiant rise. It was an extremely long, fragmenting earthgrazer covering 150deg of sky! Due to the low radiant at the first peak, my counts were not very high, averaging about 100-200/hr rate.

Activity remained good thru 14:00UT, at which time a noticeable increase was observed, even accounting for radiant elevation. And, after 15:00UT the rates really shot up, to over 400/hr. Meteors were coming in bursts of several a second at times, making counting with magnitude challenging. Also, around 14:00-14:40UT 7 bright fireballs were witnessed. There was no fireball activity again until after twilight began, when several -5 to -8 were seen just before sunrise. This probably foretold the start of the major second peak.

Surprisingly, the activity for the second peak already began so soon. Will wait for the report from the Far East to see whats falling down from above right now.

What a fantastic show!
