I am reposting this; don't know why it didn't show up, so I deleted a
possible offensive word and we'll try again

Subject: what a show
Hi All,
After being sick all week, therefore trapped near home, was rewarded with
the best skies we've had in months here. The Leonids were roaring when I
started at 0518, with a radiant elevation of 10 degrees, still seeing
dozens per hour. Fireballs all night long. The peak was somwehat as
expected, timing wise. I actually have no idea what the hourly count was
yet, it'll be a while till I get there on tape. Certainly several hundred
an hour; I switched to 30 second periods from 0930-1030 and had many
periods with a dozen or more.At times I kept scrunching down waiting for
the reports from many of the fireball class terminal bursts. Then, 15
minutes after Nautical twilight (halfway to civil twilight) the Leonids
continued to rage. I counted 8 in a minute at that time. saw a -10? about
6:15 AM (1115 UT) at civil twilight. Inbelievable, now THAT's a meteor
shower!! I collapsed exhasted when I came home, and am now transcribing
tape, a flash report in about 2 hours; then months of savoring this night,
The folks out west must have gotten quite a show as well.
Back to the tape for now
