Bob,

Here's a very unprofessional report from the north metro Atlanta area.

We observed the Leonids for about 45 minutes from approximately 5:15 to 6:00
am Sunday morning. The radiant seemed to be almost directly above us, only a
bit to the east. When we timed our count, we averaged about 5 a minute, with
a count of 9 in one minute being the highest count. We made no attempt to
record them, just watched and counted.

They were mostly white or slightly bluish in color and we saw a few that
seemed to come almost straight on at us. My brother, who was watching from
another location a few miles from here, said he heard a sizzling sound a few
seconds after one of those that seemed to be coming toward us, like water
hitting a hot surface. He wonders if it could have been the meteor he heard.

It could be one that we also saw, but my mother's hearing, and mine, are not
what they used to be <grin>. We did not hear any sizzling sound.

It seemed, in general, that the longer trains were those that were heading
west, north or south, and the shorter ones were heading east - though there
were exceptions to that. The very shortest were the ones that headed in our
general direction.

Conditions were good, for us. The skies were very clear but, as you know, we
are fairly light polluted here. I'm sure you were watching from a better
location.
