(meteorobs) Not sure if you got this
We had a good view of the Leonids from Mathias, West Virginia near
Lost River State Park. It was clear the whole night. I was able to
break my observations down to half-hour periods, and will break it
down to minutes when I get some time. There seemed to be a plateau
or slow rise in the rates rather than a sharp peak after 10 UT. Even
with strong twilight, 784 Leonids (LM=~5.8) were seen in an hour from
10 to 11 UT; so the ZHR was probably over 1000! There were times when
a Leonid a second was seen. One time had five Leonids in two seconds
that were distributed all around the radiant, like spokes on a wheel!
A few times there were simultaneous Leonids diametrically apposed. Even
during the strong twilight there were many Leonids seen. Several times
I would look over at one part of the sky to follow a meteor, and look back
to see the train of a Leonid that I missed! The average Leonid was 1st
or 2nd magnitude, and left a train.
