Bert and All,

It's quite easy to estimate the moon's phase a few years in advance.
Simply add 11 days to the moon's phase for each year. For instance the
moon was 2 days old for this year's Leonids. For 2002 it will be 13 days
old (full), 2003 it will be 24 days old (a waning crescent) and 6 days
old in 2004 (nearly first quarter). For totals in excess of 29 (a lunar
month) simply subtract 29 from the total. 2004 = 24+11 = 35 - 29 = 6

For reference 7 days = First Quarter
             14  "   = Full
             21  "   = Last Quarter
             29  "   = New
