(meteorobs) Murphy's Law - Leonids 2001

Chris Crawford recently wrote of how Murphy hit him. I'm sure many others
have stories about Murphy's Law striking at the worse possible, or nearly
the worse possible time.

I had Murphy hit me at around 9:30 UT when the rates were really
starting to pick up. During a short lull in activity, I decided that
I'd better switch sides to my tape in my tape recorder, but when I
bent up in my lounge chair to change the tape side, my lounge chair
decided to break in half with a jaring crash! @$#%#&#%$! During the
comotion, my digital watch went flying away into some tall grass. At first,
I started to panic until I remembered that I brought a backup mechanical
alarm clock just in case, which I had under my now broken in half lawn chair.
I quickly reached under the broken chair and grabed it, while keeping my
eyes on the sky and remembering what I saw. Soon I was caught up and don't
think I missed any meteors. It's a good thing my wife borrowed the spare
mechanical clock from David Todd, who ending up saving me from the pain of
no time piece during the Leonid storm. Thanks David! BTW, I also had a
notebook with paper and pencils in case my tape recorder decided to die.
This is all proof that it pays to have a back up, and that Murphy's Law must
be kept in mind during important events like the 2001 Leonid Storm.
