Subject: LEO Final report from Sobaeksan Observatory, South Korea.

Dear friends,
Please find the final report for the 2001 LEO campaign from Sobaeksan
Observatory, South Korea.
My previous report send from Korea on nov 19 was a "little bit" optimistic.
All 4 observers (Michael Lachmann, Marc Mathay, Kwon O Chul and I) were
definitely thinking that
the rates were about 200 per minute ! In fact, this night was so wonderfull
that we didn't even
find enought time to do a real "one minute count" from witch we should have
based our estimations !
Fortunately, the audio tapes were right, and maybe except for 1 or 2
minutes, the rate never reach 50
per min (need to listen to the tapes one more time to be sure).
As we can see, it seems there was 2 peaks during the period 18-19:00 UT,
altought my report is
not complete for this period ; the other observers at Sobaeksan agree with
that.
Looking to other reports from observers located in China (Sirko ...) or in
Korea (Daniel ...),
it is really amazing to find so important differences between observers :
For exemple, it seems Daniel never get higher rate than 120-130 for 5 min
periods (as I can see
from the graph shown on his website), or Sirko had a completely different
magnitude estimation
(average magnitude from Sirko report seems to be around +2-3 ; my own
estimations seems to be be
around 0 +1 ...)
What can be said about this ? Is there a "personnal" equation for the same
observations ?
It should be interesting (very !) to meet each other one night for a common
and comparative observation !
About the reports for the 2 nights (november 17-18 and 18-19)
Teff : is observing time in min.
Other : Meteors other than LEO and SPO (details are below : magnitude and
timing)
LEO : total of LEO seen for each period
Bol : bolids brighter than mag -4 (details follow)
NMg : LEO no magnitude available.
I managed to catch some magnitude estimations for short periods only during
the peak time.
In fact we spend a wonderfull hour looking at the incoming meteors, taking
some photos,
managing video and talking to other observers ... Need to enjoy this "once
in a life" show ....
It's a shame to miss so magnitude estimations, but I still hope this data
will be usefull,
even without complete magnitude estimations.

At last, I need to adress many many thanks to Mr Kwon O Chul, Seoul
Astronomical Club and
to the staff of the SobaekSan Observatory. Without the help of this friendly
people, this
LEO nights could have been very different and probably not so wonderfull !
