RE: (meteorobs) Fwd: Leonids: USA "vs" the Eastern Hemisphere



Having it 'all on tape' is one thing, but going from the visual or automated
(MetRec or MeteorScan or whatever) rates from a video recording to the actual
ZHR is, AFAIK, a task still eluding us. Remember the 'live ZHR' values provided
by the space agencies in 1999 that turned out to be too low by factors of
several?! Without reliable *visual* ZHR values there can be no calibration - and
IMHO it is rather disturbing that there is no agreement on how high the two 2001
peaks really were, even more than a week after the event ...
