  In 1998 I saw 23 fireballs in 3.25 hours. In 2001 I saw 11 in ~3.25 hours.
Also, the average magnitude of all Leonids in 1998 was about 0.5, and only 
about 1.5 this year.

  However, in terms of the number of Leonids, of course, it wasn't even close.
My best ZHR in 1998 was ~140, in 2001 it was ~1400, or 10 times as much.
