To add to Anthonie's question.  If the Geminids are of asteroid origin,
does that asteroid still exist as such?  If so, is there danger of it
slamming into the earth? If not, how did it get broken up into meteor
sized chunks?  Were tidal forces of the Sun, Jupiter or even the earth
involved?
