The Night before Christmas... the meteorobs version!
.... by C.L. Hall

Twas the night before Christmas
  and all over the net...
All were out for some Ursids -
  you didn't forget???

The heated socks were hung
  on the observers with care...
In the hope that more meteors
  soon would appear...

Normal people were huddled
  all snug in their beds...
While visions of spouses freezing outside
  never entered their heads!

And Hally and Gramer
  and all of the rest...
Had just settled in
  for a nightful of Teff...

When out of the dark
  there arose such a flash...
That the rest flew to their windows
  to look out and gasp!!

Off in the distance what should appear...
but a red and white fireball!!!
What... expecting reindeer??

Where's Santa? Where's Rudolph?
   and Donner and Blitzen?
Comet's at aphelion -
  so he's not around visitin'...

Faster than a Leonid this fireball flew
  but, wait, <what> velocity??
Asked the IMO crew...

It shattered the windows,
it blew dust off the sill...
And the fireball kept going
  just 'over the next hill'...

Over Davis and Youmans
  and on to McLeod...
All the east coast watched it...
  a real fireball crowd!

But hey, did you hear it?
  those electrophonic cries...
Merry Christmas observers!
  and keep watching the skies!!!!
