(meteorobs) Observation Jan 2/3

Hi!

I observed the early Quadrantids with both Jures from a location about one
hour drive into the Alps. The sky was quite good considering 83% lit Moon
up and all the snow surrounding us. Temperatures were quite mild at about
-10 centigrades with a light wind blowing throughout the session.
Meteors started very actively with four meteors seen in the first five
minutes. Among them, the first and brightest Quadrantid of the night that
was not well seen low in the east. The only Delta Cancrid of the night was
also seen during that first period. The second period was very slow as
only five meteors were seen. One of them, a -1 sporadic with 2 sec train,
was the best meteor of the night. The last hour was the most active with 8
Quadrantids, while sporadic rates stayed low.
I have also noticed that sporadics were quite bright compared to
Quadrantids with four negative magnitude events compared to only one for
QUAs.

Tonight the temperature is said to dip to -20 degs C, but it should stay
clear.

Clear skies to you, too!
Javor.
