There is a January 8 report on the Earth & Sky Web site that
may describe the same Dec. 22 fireball. The only discrepancy
is a roughly two-hour difference that may be attributable to a
time-zone miscalculation. The URL of the report is:

 http://earthsky.com/BBS/Observers-Notebook/407x0.html

By the way, there's a message there dated January 10 that almost
certainly was an observation of a single bright flash from
Telstar 401 that some might have innocently interpreted as a
point meteor. The URL of this one is:

 http://earthsky.com/BBS/Observers-Notebook/410x0.html

I've submitted follow-ups to both which should appear on the site
tomorrow.
