(meteorobs) LYRIDS FROM CARSON CITY
Greetings from Carson City, Nevada USA.
The following are brief observations made over a three(3) day period.
2002.04.20 04:55 - 05:30 PDT(11:55 - 12:30 UT)
Location: Carson City, Nevada USA 39deg 11min N 119deg 45min W elev:1430m(4700ft)
Bortle scale: 4
Teff: 35 min
Breaks: 0
Total meteors sighted: 3(all Lyrids)
Magnitude dist.: -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5 6

Color dist.: 2 - white 1 - blue/gray.
Notes: All three(3) meteors were fast. The last meteor sighted presented a translucent train blue/gray in color. The train lasted less than 1 second, and was approximately 5 degrees in length.
2002.04.21 04:37 - 05:22 PDT(11:37 - 12:22UT)

Total meteors sighted: 2(both Lyrids)

Notes: Both meteors were sighted at the same time(04:38 PDT). Both were very fast.
2002.04.24 04:33 - 05:10 PDT(11:33 - 12:10 UT)

Teff: 37 min.
Breaks: 0
Total meteors sighted: 2(Both Lyrids)

Color dist.: 1 - white 1 - blue/white
Notes: The first meteor sighted was a fast mover that flared at the end of it's pass. This was the magnitude +1 meteor. This meteor also presented a long, thin train the lasted less than 1 second, and was approximately 6 deg in length. The second meteor was slower, and persented a translucent blue/white train 10 deg in length that lasted approximately 2 seconds, fading slowly. This meteor did not flare at the end of it's pass.
Final notes: These meteors were rather hard to see. Each viewing 'session' was begun just before daylight, which of course did not help. All meteors sighted were fast movers, and except for the two(2) that presented translucent trains, all were very brief
in their visible travel distances.
