Hi!

If the first thought I have is "That was a meteor" I count them, if the first 
thought is "Was that a meteor?" I don't.
The collected data wouldn't be very useful anyway, because it's probably 
impossible to assess the magnitude of an eye flash.

Still, this is maybe one of the worst problems of visual meteor observing. 
Maybe it would be best to restrict your field of view to a overviewable area 
with given border lines (so the field parameter consists of the corners of a 
polygon) and don't count the meteors not crossing this field.
