(meteorobs) East GA Perseids 08 - 10/11 - 02
I
was able to get out under transparent skies and have an enjoyable meteor
observing session this morning, with the pre-peak Perseids providing a
pleasing plethora of bright, medium and dimmer shower members. The
non-Perseids also put on a fairly hefty showing during the second
period; all in all, I observed 55 meteors in just over two hours
teff. The best was a Perseid fireball that raced right out of the radiant
towards UMA and ended in a terminal burst of -4. There were quite a few
trains tonight, but none longer than 2 seconds.
My pre-night peak
rates were very comparable to the pre-peak night in 1999. I didn't
consider tonight's haul too shabby. Sadly, work commitments will prevent
me from doing any serious observing tonight!! I do plan to get up and do
some backyard "browsing," however.
